  1. Too Scared

From the recording Always Here

I read a book (and saw the movie) by Jon Krakauer called “Into the Wild” about a young boy who walks into the wilderness in Alaska. A wonderful book and movie. One of the quotes I have kept from this book is as follows: “So many people live with unhappy circumstances and yet will not take initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity and conservatism, all of which may appear to give one piece of mind, but in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventuress spirit within man than a secure future. The very basic core of a man’s living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun”.I have tried with this song to capture the essence of this quotation.

I have a friend
Who lives in the city
Waits tables at Sundance café
Married too young
babies too soon
Now dinner and curtains and grey

A life lost in small talk
details of existing
A new brand of face cream to try
children don't come
The phone never rings
She watches the mailman walk by

And shes too scared to change it
Too scared to try
Too scared to live life alone
Too scared to leave him
Too scared to let go
Too scared to to face the unknown

She dreams of exploring
The jungles and rivers
Forests and mountains and streams
To sleep in a castle
wake up by the sea
Go places alive in her dreams

And shes too scared to change it
Too scared to try
Too scared to live life alone
Too scared to leave him
Too scared to let go
Too scared to to face the unknown

Tonight as she sits
by the fire with her knitting
Cat asleep by her chair
She makes up her mind
shes going to leave on
The next bus to go anywhere

And shes going to change it
She going to try
Shes going to live life alone
Shes going to leave him
Shes gonna let go
As soon as she's ironed all the clothes
As soon as she's ironed all the clothes
