I recently discovered Kate Rusby. She has a wonderful song called "The Goodman" and it was the inspiration for this song. Finding all sorts of things around the house that clearly don't belong to me... The second last verse about finding a hair grip in the bed was something that actually happened to a friend of mine many years ago...very awkward when the man sheepishly says "but it's yours..Isn't it??

Lyrics

I came home the other day
That day came home did I
Found a coat by the old hat rack
without no reason why

A coat whose coat I cried out loud
Whose coat could it be
A long black beauty I'd not seen
It don't belong to me

I came home the other day
That day came home did I
Found tea and cake in the old sun lounge
without no reason why

A cake whose cake I cried out loud
Whose cake could it be
A Boston cream pie I'd not baked
It dont belong to me
It dont belong to me

I came home the other day
That day came home did I
Gauloises light in the old front room
without no reason why

Who smokes who smokes I cried out loud
Never had a puff has he
An pink tipped stub that I'd not smoked
It dont belong to me
It dont belong to me

I came home the other day
That day came home did I
A sweet hair grip between the sheets
without no reason why

Whose grip whose grip I cried out loud
My hair's too thick you see
A grip like this that I'd not bought
It dont belong to me
It dont belong to me
It dont belong to me
It dont belong to me

I came home the other day
That day came home did I
He had left without a word
Not even said goodbye

He dont belong to me no more
No he dont belong to me
